You Don't Have to Overhaul Your Life. Just Start Swapping.

We live in a different world than our parents did. More plastic, more synthetic fragrance, more "convenience" chemicals in everything from our cleaning cabinet to our couch cushions. You don't need to be scared of it, you just need to know it's there, and know you have a choice. That's the whole idea behind this page: small, doable swaps that add up, not a complete life overhaul by next Tuesday.

Where toxins actually come from

Toxins aren't just an "outside" problem, they're baked into a lot of what we bring inside our homes every day: conventional cleaning products, synthetic fragrance (candles, dryer sheets, air fresheners), nonstick cookware, plastic food storage, and personal care products with long ingredient lists we can't pronounce. None of this is about any one product ruining your health. It's about total load, the cumulative exposure that builds up over years. Lowering that total load, even a little at a time, is the goal.

How to be more cautious (without losing your mind)

  • Start with the products you touch or breathe in most often, cleaning spray, laundry detergent, body wash, before worrying about everything at once.
  • Use an ingredient-checking app or site (like EWG's Skin Deep or Healthy Living app) when you're unsure about a product.
  • Choose "fragrance-free" over "unscented", unscented products often still contain masking chemicals.
  • Swap one room or one category at a time. This isn't a weekend project, it's a slow rebuild.
  • Remember: better, not perfect. You're not aiming for a toxin-free life, you're aiming for a lower-toxin life.

Everyday swaps I actually use

These are the swaps I talk about most on Instagram, the ones that have earned a permanent spot in our house.

Instead of
Clorox & conventional multi-surface cleaners
I use
Branch Basics
Instead of
Fragrance-heavy mainstream detergent
I use
A cleaner laundry detergent
I'll list my current pick here.
Instead of
Chemical-laden dryer sheets
I use
Wool dryer balls
Instead of
Synthetic body washes
I use
Tallow soap

There's always a better way, not a perfect one. Pick one swap this week and start there.
